Album Reviews

Toby Freeman, Folk London
In Scots Gaelic Uam means "From Me" and refers to the way folk songs pass onward from singer to singer. There are ballads, tunes, work songs, and a number of duets with the fine singer Mary Smith. There is also a bi-lingual duet with Eddi Reader, which is a version of The Jealous Sister.
Julie Fowlis is a fine traditional singer; I particularly like the waulking and clapping songs that go along with the Hebridean tweed industry.
